This is where the real Shanghainese come. This is not a salubrious restaurant. If this is your idea of a first date restaurant it might well be your last! This is where the Shanghai locals of Ashfield come to satisfy their craving for street food. The westerners will end up next door and across the road for newer, more fashionable and probably more expensive options. One is greeted by a bain marie bank of delectables including stewed duck, bamboo shoot stir frys, and more curious offerings. I do not risk food kept at this room temperature so go for the freshly steamed and cooked food. The soup dumplings or xiao lung bau is decent, the meat fresh, the skin not too thick and with a just adequa...

I’ve been going to the restaurant with my family since I was a child. It is family owned and has the warmest service. The soy duck and salted chicken as entrees are must tries! I’ve never had a similar flavour explosion from any other place. The pan fried buns and cold dishes are authentically Chinese and reserve a special place in my heart despite all the new pop up restaurants around it. This one is the original and the best. Almost everything I’ve tried on the menu has been great value for money and you will not regret the experience once you visit. Even though I live more than an hour’s drive away from Ashfield now, I still make the excuse to pop in and eat or get takeaway from the food...

We discovered this gem through Amy from the Blondie in China and this place did not disappoint. When you first walk in you might have some doubts because it’s not as busy as the other 3 Shanghainese restaurants next door but the food we ordered was delicious and very authentic. We ordered cold dishes pigs ear, pork tripe, and hot dishes xiaolongbao, pan fried baos and sweet sour pork ribs. The xiaolongbao was very soupy, the skin was light and thin and the pork filling was hearty. The pan fried baos were super crispy on the outside and soupy on the inside. It is sad to see the business struggle due to the pandemic and hope our review can encourage more diners to try out this place and suppor...

This is my favourite Shanghainese restaurant in all of Sydney. I have been coming here since I was 5 years old. Despite its small size, the food here is packed with flavor! My favorite dish is their xiao long bao - the chewy wrapper, flavorful pork mince, and delicious soup inside make it irresistible. You'll want to eat 8 portions in one sitting, it's that good. The owner and staff are amazing and will help you navigate the menu if you're overwhelmed by the options. Be prepared for a food coma after dining here! Book a table now

Ashfield is the home to a record number of restaurants with the word 'Shanghai ' in the name. Flavour Shanghai might be the smallest, but the flavour is indeed large. There must be a law in Ashfield decreeing that every Chinese restaurant along Parramatta Road must have the word 'Shanghai ' in its name. There 's Shangahi Night, New Shanghai, New Shanghai Night (why not combine two names in one), Taste of Shanghai, Shanghai Dumpling and the smallest of all the Shanghai 's, Flavour Shanghai.

This cozy little restaurant offers exceptional food that is well worth the sometimes slow service. If you enjoy trying more exotic cuts of meat, the cold side dishes are a must-try. I always make sure to take home two containers so I can savor it again later.

Amazing food that tastes really authentic! Every time we go there, the food is fresh. I always get the pan fried buns, hot and sour soup, handmade noodles and xiao long bao! Delicious!!
