Today (5/21/22) while returning to Sac 'to from SF, we were starved and came upon this place after rejecting several others our cell phones led us to. Glad we did. Unpretentious on the outside, we found parking (a miracle) and a line waiting to get in. No wonder. The menu ranged from ethnic to southern to traditional to what the hell is that? My son got the two egg breakfast, over easy with runny yolks and home fries. Perfect. My granddaughter got the chocolate chip pancakes with bacon. Perfect. I went brunchy and got the Cali Club. My mother and I were in town and I had to make a visit here. I have never been disappointed and before I left the Covid pandemic was in full drive so I ordered on line. I usually order blueberry pancakes, which are loaded with blueberries and this is one of the few restaurants that I can truly order a omelette that will satisfy my picky preference super soft) which btw is not just soft on one side. And if you ever want grits cooked the right way this is also one of just a few restaurant in Berkeley that can do the job right nice and creamy) and then there's the home fries. We waited over half an hour for our food(pancakes, fruit and eggs). Others who had arrived after us were served long before we were. No one came and checked on us in the meantime, to refill our drinks or otherwise. And when we got our tab it was disappointing to see there was an automatic 20% gratuity applied. I feel like this directly influenced the service. Definitely do not recommend. Edited to add: we just found a hair in our pancakes.

I love the food from this restaurant and have otherwise always had a rather pleasant experience here but after today I will not be back. While sitting outside on the patio enjoying my meal, I hear the boss of the business yelling at and berating an employee, throwing dishes around and on the ground. Talk about a TOXIC work environment. That's completely unacceptable to do, and to do in within view and earshot of customers no less. Maybe you should think about learning different ways to communicate that's not yelling and being threatening.

Little hole in the wall place with alright breakfast. I actually enjoyed the robust and flavorful coffee most!lol There will be a 20% gratuity charge regardless of party size and it helps pay for staff's wages. After placing my name/party of 2 on the list, I was told the wait time was about 10 mins. That 10 mins somehow turned into 45 mins I cannot say it was the wait staff or cook bc I seen them busting their butts off. Anyhoo, I didn't love it nor hate it. The overall experience was alright.
Super yummy breakfast in a welcoming environment. It has a nice outdoor patio dining area and a huge menu of selections. Everything tastes great and homemade. I had the Cajun breakfast which was andouille sausage scrambled with bell pepper and some cheese. The grits were thick and creamy. GF toast was on point. Def want to come back and try some of the NY style sandwiches. The owner was super chill and I'm pretty sure he's Seth Rogen in disguise.

I called to order a corned beef hash and eggs order because they were three blocks away from my project. Little did I know that they automatically charge 20% gratuity. I don't mind tipping when I want to tip and what I think is fair for each service. This to me is unacceptable. The food itself is just below average. Nothing special for food that was probably cooked two hours ago and kept warm. The place looks unorganized and dirty.
