Wow!! What is with the bouncers out the front of this establishment. We went to this place after a dinner for a friends birthday. There was about 10 of us and one of our friends was singled out by the main bouncer because he thought he was drunk. My friend explained to the guy that he had had 3 drinks at dinner and was not drunk. I went over to see what was going on and the bouncer told me to go away because he wasn't talking to me and then proceeded to stare me down. Then he refused me and another friend who came over entry (all in our late 40's and not in the habit of getting blind drunk) he also wouldn't let us go in to Kinsela's next door so we left after a few choice words with the boun...
Have eaten Johnny Wong's several times, mostly at the suggestion of friends after drinks in the area. Always wish I could give it a positive review as I really like the funky decor (in spite of the intrusive music which seems more designed to keep the staff awake than anything else). But always leave disappointed as the dumplings are mostly flavourless way overpriced for what you get. Frankly it's one of the mysteries of Sydney that in spite of a thriving Chinese community our dumpling bars seem incapable of providing anything that even faintly resembles authentic Shanghais street fare in taste quality. Love the space here, there's something a little bit less pretentious in terms of vibe even though the interior fit out is really cosmopolitan. If your'e here for drinks after work, try to score your group a spot upstairs on the balcony, it makes the $18 price tag on all house cocktails that little bit more worth it. If your'e here for Johnny Wong's and not sure how to tie in the dumpling menu to your night out, then try it on a Wednesday when they do $1 dumplings! Great service, great space, and one of the few places on the strip with an upstairs view!
Upon entering the restaurant, there was no greeting or acknowledgement. We waited an unnecessarily long time for our two orders of dumplings to arrive. Initially, the dumplings looked appetizing, but upon closer inspection, we discovered a medium-sized cockroach cooked with one of them - a truly disgusting sight. After flagging down a waiter, they silently took the plate and disappeared into the kitchen. A few minutes later, a new plate of dumplings arrived, seemingly freshly made. Still, there was no apology or explanation given.

Cute interior. I love this cute joint just off Taylor's Square (and you get to play mini pin bowling if you liek a game or two after dumpings, hehe We tried just about everything at Johnny Wong's as it's a small menu to choose from. I'm loving my prawn dumpling, the usual. And the mocktails (or was it coktails are just as fun. I remembered there was chilli in my mocktail, giving it a bit of zing. It was delicious from memory. We're talking about a year ago haha Time to return again with friends!

an ingenious little noodle. space is small, orders come fast and the staff is super friendly. there is also a small bar where they place their orders, so it is super comfortable and best of all, the dumpling is delicious! note: can be busy very quickly!
Absolutely disappointed. Horrible service with an attitude, the food is less than average overpriced. It could easily fool someone who doesn't know anything about Asian food. Sydney siders can't be that stupid. Will never go back again

I had the opportunity to try the dumplings from this restaurant at the FCBA community Christmas party. They were incredibly delicious and I truly enjoyed them. I ended up eating a lot of them because they were so good.
