I love the decor inside and friendly service but I am not sure why many people give this place raving reviews! I have been to Japan three times and knowa bit a bout the cuisine so it is pretty ordinary to me, sorry for those who are fans of this place. I think it is overhyped! The prices are not as good too, like the chicken curry katsu which was about $18.50 I think. The Japanese bento is too much of the cheaper pieces for my husband who is a big Japanese food lover! At $20 it includes sushi, sahimi -just two small chunks of fish, tempura (which is mostly the content of the bento, cheap veggies), miso soup, tea and salad. My teriyaki beef was not as great but average taste with too much shr...

I prefer this restaurant if I feel like Japanese in Moonah as the decor is suitably Japanese & staff are efficient & friendly. However the food is middle of the range. I've had salmon donburi ($18) on multiple occasions & I really want to love it (looks spectacular on arrival) but there are too many flavors & textures going on. It is abundant with different styles of salmon but being in a bowl all the flavours gets meshed up. The salmon bento box ($19) again looks fabulous on arrival but on tasting, there are too many random flavours in the box, mashed carrot/potato wasabi mash, boiled carrots, raw cucumber, pasta salad, tempura - too oily to enjoy, random squid wrapped in...

Dishes are of average taste, a bit pricey compared to others like them. The saving grace in this place is the green tea which is just as well as it is a tea house after all. They need to put more flavour in their sauces like the ones in the teriyaki beef don buri and give more sauce, please, don't be too stingy! It costs about $15 for a small bowl with rice and some carrots and lettuce so I think it is not asking too much. The chicken curry katsu was ok for my son, but I noted the sauce was just in a tiny bowl with some veggies, so why $18.50? Too much, chicken katsu is about $13 at Umai, similar taste and with 2 salads and sushi even! If they want to have more customers, they should review t...

We use to get our sushi fix from Kawasemi on a regular basis, but the last time we ordered a takeaway platter of sushi and sashimi we were a little disappointed. It was quite expensive and the platter wasn't that full. Taste wise there was also something missing...like no seasoning in the rice or something. When we first visited we were really impressed but it seems like the restaurant may be on the decline. Book a table now

I used to come here a lot.it was reasonably priced with good food. The food is ok and more expensive. The dessert was bad, my friend and I had the coffee jelly and it was covered in sugar, it basically tasted of molasses and nothing else. :(

Went there last week for another impromptu lunch. Haven't been since the last review but will not be hurrying back. Service slow and the experience well disappointing to say the least. Food unexceptional. Will not be back in a hurry.

Had a delicious food in Kawasemi. It was the first time I had been, and I was very impressed with everything we ordered. The staff was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely go back. It is the best Japanese in Hobart.

Your sushi is amazing, just like your customer service. I'm looking forward to trying out your traditional Japanese cuisine in the near future and try out your traditional Japanese food. Book a table now

I've ordered chicken katsudon for my lunch. It came with a lot of onion and coleslaw salad there was no mention on menu). I can't eat onion, so had to throw all off that out.
