Lin is located at a busy location on Broadway just west of Granville. Open for supper only after 5 p.m., the place was fairly quiet when we arrived just before 6 on Friday night. But that didn't last very long, Lin's quickly filled up by 7, and was doing very brisk take-out business as well. Our group order was taken, and in short order our eight dishes arrived starting with hot & sour soup to warm us up on a cool evening. The house specialty xiao long bao arrived next, and we weren't disappointed with the bamboo baskets of steamed dough packets filled with tender ground pork in broth. Be sure to pick up the bao in a porcelain spoon to eat to get the soup in the packet. We also ordered Shangh...

If only the dumplings (appetizers) weren't so tempting, I'd love to try some of the main dishes, but the dumplings are SO GREAT! We got there a bit late for lunch, but were still treated nicely and not rushed. Late arrival might be why we got to see our Xiao Long Bao (Shanghai juicy pork dumplings) made before our eyes, and my were they ever wonderful. Delicate dough surrounding a delicious filling that produces its own broth while being steamed. A MUST TRY.Also had the wontons in spicy garlic sauce - superb. The steamed pork buns are not exactly chow su bao, but still tasty. Pot stickers were good. Steamed dumplings with chicken & celery were very tasty and a nice balance to the other flavo...
I went with a friend. We ordered two lunch specials. Beg worth green beans in black bean sauce and MaPo tofu (spicy tofu and ground pork). We both had corn soup to start. The soup was watery, salty and otherwise pretty tasteless. The beef was OK, but really only OK. The MaPo tofu was more of a soup served in a bowl and was incredible it was so bad. It's usually one of my favorite dishes and I've never treated a version so disgusting. I told the waiter who wouldn't do anything. Overall a big disappointment.
I took our family reunion to our local haunt Chinese food restaurant. Did they order the food some based on our recommendations and some based on what they like. The 17 people were not at all disappointed with the food options and variety. We took home some left overs and had them a few days later on the ferry to Vancouver Island they heated up nicely on the microwave we found in the coffee shop on board. The service was great. The food was hot temperature. We had a great night at Lin. Book a table now
We went for lunch and had the Xiao Long Bao or Shanghai Pork Dumplings. Yummy. Should have order two servings. We also ordered the chicken and celery dumplings and shared a hotpot Shanghai rice. This was washed down with some tea. All up the cost with tip was C$26. Service was good. If you want freshly made dumplings then look no further.
Service seems to be inconsistent–very good and sometimes not so great. But the food is what draws me to this restaurant. It is a bit oily, but SO delicious. The green onion noodles are amazing, the xiao long bao is amazing, the prices are amazing... everything is amazing. Highly recommend for lunch and dinner.
It's a good place to go for a simple lunch. Make sure to reserve or you could wait a bit. It's busy and that shows in the average service. Food is decent Chinese fair but you have to pay extra to add veggies to your dish. They make their signature siu long bao fresh. You can see the prep at the back counter.
We went to our local Chinese haunt for lunch and we were disappointed with the food. It was a bit greasy. The beef was over fried. The Kung Pao chicken was just fine. Service was slow and sluggish. Will give it another try but.... Book a table now
The cooking is a mixture of Shanghainese / Szechuan and other Northern provinces. Excellent buns and dumplings ( all hand made ); neighbourhood type of place with simple furnishing. Highly enjoyable and recommended.
Must try Shao Long Bao. They are juicy, rich in favour but not oil at all. Love they pea shoot vegetables too. New favour is pan fire bum, super delicious.
