Tried this place one night near closing. The lady was very nice and even made us a favorite dish from their dim sum menu (despite dim sum being a lunch thing). We ordered -BBQ pork fried rice -Sesame red bean balls-Chicken Corn soupThe fried rice and balls were awesome! The soup was alright, but I'm jaded to that kind of soup as my favorite growing up I think will always be an impossible standard. As others have noted, the owner is so friendly! She has been on the island since 1970 and has run the Courtenay restaurant for 26 years. We were somewhat taken aback by the dated nature of the restaurant but would return for the conversation. The food is typical of Western Chinese but it curbed my Asian cravings...I can only eat so much hamburgers, linguini, fish 'n chips...before I need some rice!
Don't let the atmosphere fool you. This building is almost 100 years old and the family has run the restaurant for over 25 years. The interior is tired and worn, our first instinct was to turn around. However being on a quest for good Chinese food we took a chance and were pleasantly surprised, staff was friendly and the food was fantastic. We have now found our "go to" place for Chinese food!
a very nice, old fashion Chinese restaurant with very good tasting delicious and very tasty Chinese dishes and very good staff and 100% good customer service. my favourite dish in this restaurant is the chicken chow my and sweet and sour Pork...Combo for1. the restaurant is now only by the COVID-19 pandemic from the hand. Excellent Asian fare located in downtown Courtenay. Located in a heritage building, this restaurant has some serious culinary chops. The crispy ginger beef and chow mein is one of my favourite meals in the Comox Valley. Very nice dim sum, Szechuan, and traditional Americanized Chinese food dishes fill up the menu. The owner is SO NICE. Go here, you won't regret it.
Visited again several times. The food was superb. Just to mention a few dishes - Special chow mein, Chicken Hot pot, Sweet and sour fish. Just to tell the person who mentioned flies below - windows are full of plants, never any flies. The restaurant is in vintage decor, and so lovely.
An old standard which might be off putting but don't judge a book by its cover. Vegetables were fresh, sauces light and flavorful and the servings were a good size. 3 dishes for 2 which lasted for next day's kunch and sides for another dinner.
