As a place that started as a small organic farming business over 40 years ago, Pillars of Hercules was very forward thinking. I would have thought, in 2024, their commitment to sustainability would have meant their cafe having a lot more in the way of fresh, plant-based food. Unfortunately most of what is on offer is pre-prepared and contains animal ingredients (dairy or eggs). The soup was nice enough but focaccia was offered cold with no means of heating. The cake on this occasion was dry and tasted like it had been lying out for days. The staff are polite and amiable, but it was obvious they were keen to close by the way things were being cleared away and the floor being swept half an hou...

A beautiful setting with amenities and a fantastic initiative, however the prices were eye watering and the quality of the meals available were poor at best. The plant based pillar “burger” was dry, bland and presented on a plain whole meal bun with a side salad. The side salad was very tasty but as the “burger” was completely devoid of flavour and enjoyment it certainly was not worth £10. The Brie and berry focaccia was nice but still over priced. I am trying to find more positives however, Pillars of Hercules you are making it difficult. Please keep doing what you are doing as it’s really refreshing but consider a fairer price for product policy. We had a fabulous walk through the woods an...

Hello, we are French tourists on a roadtrip in Scotland. After arriving in Edinburgh, we headed towards Falkland and found this campsite. The facilities are very clean and all made of wood. It is a very pleasant farm campsite with a café area and a small grocery store. The cost of the night is normal with water and toilets accessible all night. We arrived outside opening hours and there was no problem with a reservation on the website. We recommend! Mary and Charlie Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Quiet, Great value

Very nice cafe with a rustic feel. Food is hearty with plentiful vegan options, including soup, pasties, a burger and sandwiches. Cafe doesn't serve meat but the farm shop does, though it is very largely vegan/veggie. Worth a detour. Extensive woodland walks in the Falkland estate start from the car park. Google thinks its a hotel, it isn't though it does have a bothy for hire. Service: 5 Book a table now
