This traditional rustic restaurant occupies the leafy courtyard and ground-floor rooms of the of a converted historical mansion in the heart of La Orotava, the first-floor being the guest rooms of the Hotel Rural Orotava. Perhaps the restaurant was too rustic in winter, as the doors remained open to the courtyard and there was a distinct lack of heating in the evening! The food is very traditionally Canarian and I particularly enjoyed the conejo en salmorejo and there is a good and reasonably priced selection of Spanish wines (from both Tenerife and the mainland). The service was prompt, friendly and efficient, although speaking a little Spanish seemed to help. For those seeking traditional...

We visited twice (mainly because it is open on days when many restaurants are closed). The food is very traditional: we had rabbit in sauce, solomillo and salt cod (which was rather too salty). The rabbit and cod came with Canarian wrinkly potatoes. The cod croquettes were great starters, and we tried the gofio which was very interesting a sweet really . The local house wine was OK. Excellent coffee typical of the Canaries. The building is a traditional colonial house built round a courtyard, very atmospheric. Very good value

The place is beautiful and cosy, the salads were nice and fresh, the croquettes were store bought but the main thing that made this place very bad was the very very bad service. The waitress has no clue about her job, she is also very slow. Not very friendly either. She brought the water without glasses, the food without cutlery, the bread at the end of the meal etc. There were people standing in the entrance for at least 20 minutes which she plainly ignored.

I had a great lunch here, food was absolutely delicious, wines too. The menu is simple concise, mainly small plate style dishes. It’s a lovely little place, family run. Most tables are situated in an open, central courtyard. It feels traditional authentic, with friendly, caring service. Excellent value.
