I must confess, I am a SMH good food guide junkie! I love where that book has taken us in search of good - often great food! More on that later...We decided not to take the 190km trip (each way) to Rylstone (29 nine 99 yum Cha and tea house - seriously amazing dumplings) but opted for a "Good food guide" Sydney based alternative. Ashfield here we come! We had not been to this bustling slice of Asia in Sydney for years and it was so nice to get back. The wonderful smells of great Asian cooking filled the air... we were actually excited to try out a new recommendation.Usually when you get to a good 'cheap eats' restaurant you have a wait, bit of a queue type thing... no wait here. The place at...

I must admit, I am a fan of the SMH Guide and love exploring new places for good food. Although we initially planned to visit Rylstone for some amazing dumplings, we opted for an alternative closer to Sydney. We ended up in Ashfield, a bustling Asian hub that we hadn't visited in years. The aromas of Asian cuisine filled the air and we were excited to try a new recommendation. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 12:15, which made us hesitant. The service was lackluster and the food was just okay - the dumplings were decent but nothing extraordinary, and the spring rolls were bland. We overheard another diner complaining about the timing of their meal. Overall, we were not impressed a...

OK, so I live 6 hours south of Sydney where there is a dearth of quality Asian food so perhaps I am easily impressed... However for $46 I had a feed that would have easily done 3 4 for my mate McGill I maybe...we got lucky but the food was outstanding. Fresh, tasty, clearly made in house... Good dumplings a spectacular schezuan chicken dish. Very basic surroundings, friendly service, BYO everything alcohol wise just loved it. Wheelchair access to the restaurant was via one quite large step I didn't bother to check if they had an accessible toilet. Would be VERY happy to go back anytime.

Despite not being the most fancy restaurant on the Ashfield dining scene, this place offers generous portion sizes at affordable prices. The freshly made dumplings are a standout and worth trying. The other dishes, while not all perfectly smooth, are interesting and tasty, particularly the ones with a chili base. Overall, this restaurant earns a strong recommendation. Book a table now

We stayed around Ashfield several times about 10 years ago and had a fine memory of nice Chinese food. We went there for a quick dinner last week but couldn't find any of the places we ate before and we picked this one as it...looked popular but had a table. Oh, what a mistake! The worst chow mein I ever had!! And it was SO noisy. Will never go back there again.

The name is confusing with New Shanghai, therefore I accident went here instead of New Shanghai, when I found out it was too late, taste dramatically different from New SHanghai in a bad way....sorry no good, slow and bad service too...

Although the service employees are surly and plates may occasionally fall on the table, the good portion sizes and cost-effective pricing of the food make up for it. Overall, the food is worth trying. Book a table now
