I dined at Taste of Shanghai with a work colleague on a Wednesday whilst in Sydney recently and it was well worth the long walk we took to get there.The restaurant is set amongst blocks of various Asian Restaurants, many of which were totally empty. This one was absolutely full though, which is always a good sign.We were seated almost immediately and sat enthralled looking through the most amazing menu you are ever likely to see in a restaurant. My daughter had a craving for sang choy bow, so off to neighboring Ashfield we went, in search of the dish for brunch. Whilst this dish and our fried pork dumplings were lovley, it was rather off-putting to watch a fish floating upside down in the tank. My daughter inspected it and said it was still alive. Never-the-less, didn't order fish! The pork dumplings turned out to be the ones with hot soup inside, we found out my scalding ourselves. This is part of a bigger group of Shanghai Restaurants (Tien Tong"It is considered "better" than the others in the same area according to a Shanghainese friend.Service is fast and furious, dumplings (Xiao long pow) can be picked up at the tip with chopsticks without bursting. This is a test at the dumpling skin being the right consistency and thin and not tearing away and loosing the good HOT soup inside.Worth a visit

Thought we would try this because heaps of people in there. But was extremely disappointed..Food was terrible..I ordered the fried pork dumplings they were only fried on the bottom the top was steamed or boiled ..When i tried to eat them they were full of water...My friend ordered one of the dumpling soup things she only had a couple of mouthfuls and left it because it had no taste..Will not be going back
As a family we enjoyed another wonderful lunch at this great restaurant. So much variety and reasonable prices allowed us to order so many delicious dishes we were all so full before we finished so we ended up taking the leftovers home. We recommend that everyone becomes members so that you can enjoy the 10% members discount.
A great local Chinese. Plenty of variety in a small room. Food is good quality - tasty and well prepared. The tables are classic old china - no ceremony or sophistication in the decor, just basic good Chinese food

We keep coming back. Dumplings are great as are all.the main meals. Very busy.. no tablecloths ans loud but thats apart of the ashfield Asian scene
