We ate here in a large party for a very special occasion, so we had booked the function room. It was a very nice room. The staff knew the nature of the occasion we were celebrating but there was no effort to be congratulatory or...festive. I suppose the staff were trying to be formal, but they just came across as po-faced and unfriendly. The food was beautifully presented and around one third of our party enjoyed their meal. Came here will our son and daughter in law as they have been before and loved it. The Crown inside has been tastefully refurbished. The service was first class attentive and friendly. We all ordered different starters and could not fault the presentation and flavours....Again all different main as before all fantastic as were the selection of deserts. Pictures attached. The Gin, local ale and red wire very nice. Some may find the portion sizes small but fine for us and may be expensive for some but it is not your normal pub food. The only thing that annoys me if that the owners think they are above themselves to comment/reply to any comments wether positive or not.

since some places in recent years we have always been very happy with eating and service. although it was always worth it. Unfortunately, yesterday it seems to be significantly worse. Eating was only best described as average, we found one. hair in the brot that I expected a reaction from the waitress, but all we got was oh, I take that away for you. it was replaced, but no offer of something to compensate and no real sign of regret that it had happened. unbelievably! so disappointing. we will not disturb the journey there again.
I visited yesterday for my usual treat but standards have rapidly gone down. Beer choice was limited compared to usual, menu choice was exactly the same as twice before and the standard of food served was awful compared to the usual. My steak was cruicified...after asking for medium rare and didn't appear to be sirloin at all. Service was also very poor compared to the high standards i am used to here. Will now try to find an alternative treat.
I held a birthday celebration meal in one of the private rooms at the Crown on Sunday. The welcome and organisation was excellent and the staff were so hospitable. The food was really lovely and the service excellent. Many of my guests said that they...enjoyed the meal and the way we were made so welcome by the staff. I would highly recommend the Crown at Bildeston.

Went with my mother for a mid week lunch. Great service and fantastic food. Also the wine was delightful. Can't recommend enough.
