Have been a few times over the years and wanted to review our Saturday night as soon as we walked in we could tell it was very busy and they were very short staffed. Usually a recipe for disaster however the staff were all incredibly polite (whilst literally running around to serve everyone) and explained that they were short staffed and apologised in advance. Couldn’t fault any one at all, yes service was a little slower than usual but we were in no rush at all, and having been forewarned we weren’t too bothered anyway. Have been to the Lion on numerous occasions and also on special occasions but myself and my partner will not be returning based on our last visit on 14/03/2018. Service was lack lustre and the food was sub-par. Shame as it holds some important memories for the 2 of us. Curt tone from the staff with not even a smile when greeted. Everything we asked for felt like a chore. Toilets blocked. Food order wrong. Beautiful surroundings but customer service has dimished it.
Open table booking had not registered and no space in restaurant. Initially put us in unused area of restaurant that was almost deserted but laid up. Upon trying to order at bar told not serving where we were shown to sit. Decided to stay as late to go elsewhere and ate in bar area. Food was good but not hot. Even extra gravy was warm. Overall we won't rush back.

We got there..they didn't have our booking even though we got a confirmation email mail from open table...the restaurant though were good enough to find us a table only waited ten minutes...menu was a Valntines menu only, which we wasn't told about...overall the food was good and the service was good....
We arrived to be told no food outside as no staff People were complaining about lots of things and lots of people let the bar without even ordering a drink. I love this place but every time I go there seems to be a lack of staff. Not sure why I keep returning.
Lunch at the Lion after walking up from Lullingstone Country Park Visitor Centre. A very good menu choice and service on a very busy Sunday. Very atmospheric interior, and an attractive garden environment.
Great meal and service as always, the lovely ladies were very helpful when Opentable booked a table that wasn’t available!!
