If you've lived in the East Bay for any length of time, I don't need to tell you about Val's reputation and the legendary full pound Papa Burger and malts and shakes. And I'm pretty sure I have posted reviews in the past. But the last couple of years have hit small businesses hard, and Val's was also closed for some time. So I was thrilled to see the open sign passing by, and made a detour to visit. It is not back to full operation, only open 11 to 5 on Fridays and Saturdays, and only burgers, fries, and shakes to go. We have been frequenting this restaurant for decades, and they serve the best burgers you'll ever taste! While I've sampled many other items on the menu and found them all delicious, there's just something about the burgers that makes it difficult to choose anything else. The milkshakes, fries, and onion rings are also incredible and definitely worth trying. The restaurant has a cozy 50's vibe, complete with an ice cream counter, so there are times when you might have to wait for a table. The atmosphere was quite traditional, just like the food. The Mama Burger suited my taste, and while it was good, I wouldn't say it was exceptional. We also ordered the fish and chips based on some recommendations. The fish was tasty, but the chips didn't impress me—they weren't hot enough and definitely lacked crispiness. The milkshake is something you definitely have to try; it has a rich chocolate flavor and a nice blend of milk. However, the portion size and price are more suited for three people rather than just one.
Good food but they're never open. I've visited three times during their supposed operating hours and it's always been closed with no signage or anything. Their phone line is also just an automated message telling people they're closed on Sundays and Mondays. I feel like the least they could do inform their customers if they will be closed for an extended period of time. Very disappointed.

I haven't been here in a long time, but this place popped into my head so I wanted to drop a line and say I'm happy Val's is still thriving. It's the best burger joint I've ever been to and owners are wonderful people. I love this place and I'll find my way back someday ??
This 1950s diner is famous for its delicious burgers. We also tried some of their amazing ice cream sodas—so tasty! In addition to burgers, they offer dinner entrees like shrimp, steaks, and chicken. Make sure to check them out as soon as you can!
This retro burger joint has a fantastic atmosphere, delicious food, and an excellent staff. Despite being busy when we arrived and our intense hunger, we were pleasantly surprised by how quickly our food was served, and it was really tasty!
I went to by two burgers, one fry and one soda. The person over the phone gave a price of $60.00 lol, I cancelled. We went to boulevard burger and got great service, good food for $20-25. I'm never going to try to order from Vals again.

The burgers are incredibly juicy and are generously portioned. Pair that with one of their signature rocky road milkshakes, and your day will be significantly brighter!
