Wanted fish and chips for our last night in the Bay after a couple of weeks holiday. Were told it was the best around the area. I ordered the Seafood basket for one. Fish was lovely, calamari cooked perfectly, prawns were dry but the chips were ordinary. I was surprised, considering the favorable reviews. It may have been near closing time but there is no excuse for serving up dregs. They were dry bits and pieces in amongst a small hand full of mediocre medium size chips. My hubby had fish and minimum chips- the same scenario. Very small serving for $4 and a lot of it was fed to seagulls. They were bruised, off, and overcooked. we rate this as the best in Batemans Bay Area, we had 4 days there and tried several fish, calamari and chips at a coupe of other rated locations. they were great but Bernys was amazing, we arrived shortly before closing which is 7pm on Monday nights, which caught us on the hop, any way we had flat head fillets ($5ea) a good size and calamari (largest and thickest only $1.10 ea) the batter was brilliant and cooked to perfection. don't miss this place.I forgot to mention that even though we arrived with minutes to spare the service was excellent.
Best fish and chips, probably, but that's because Batemans Bay is about 5 square kilometres where the standard is not high. The fish was good. Nice light batter freshly cooked. Kind of what you expect from any fish and chip shop. The "home made" chips deep fried, burnt and horrible. Totally out of their home made sauces. (Make some more!!) and to boot a 45 minutes wait. Not worth it.
Trip advisor said Bernies had the best chips and just across from caravan park. We were cooking our own fish and prawns and decided on some chips. Home cut, big chunks of chips, really well cooked but the chicken salt. Oh my, really these are the best chips!

Lovely clean shop offering fresh seafood, chips and drinks. Quite a few family packs to choose from. Big play ground across the road to take kids if there's a wait .Staff were very friendly.
Ordered takeaway for 12 people on a busy Easter Sunday night. All was ready in the allotted time and beautifully cooked. Oysters are small but amazing and calamari is huge! Worth every cent
