When I bit into the burger I then realized it was low quality, fatty beef. I could not consume it, and spit it out We also had the pork plate. Again, a huge disappointment. The meat quality was below average, and it was smothered in brown gravy seemingly to mask the bland and dry pork. Fries were average. The restaurant is now open for dining from 8 am to 2 pm Tuesday to Saturday. We visited in March 2020, just before the pandemic shut everything down. We recently returned to Kona and were happy to see that Big Island Grill was still open for dining. We ordered the pancake combination with eggs, one with bacon, and one with sausage links. The portion sizes were generous, and despite not being able to finish my meal, I enjoyed it. The service was quick and very friendly. Our bill came to $36 for two people, including tip.
We visited this restaurant 15 years ago and were pleased to see that it was still open. The food was decent, but not outstanding. I ordered the Teriyaki Beef and Hamburger Steak, while my wife had the Fish and Chips. The Teriyaki Beef had great flavor, but the Hamburger Steak was just average. The fish of the day was ahi tuna, which was a bit dry. Perhaps using ahi seer would have been a better choice for the Fish and Chips. Overall, our experience was not bad, but it wasn't amazing either.
Great place for breakfast and lunch. My cousins are locals and eat here weekly. My wife and I shared the loco and it was plenty of food. The owners still work this busy restaurant and the employees seem happy. The food is great. Locals approve, tourists must go. Enjoy.

The service was excellent at this restaurant! The dishes they serve are generously portioned and bursting with flavor. A real hidden gem!
