We were looking forward to a good glass of Guinness and lunch but today was very disappointing indeed. My husband's Guinness was 'very average'; his Steak & Guinness Pie was pretty salty but more importantly half the pie dish was filled with mash potato then a very pale looking piece of puff pastry popped on top...the chips were good and the side salad small. Sunday night - had a relative visiting from WA that wanted a 'pub' meal and in particular a steak with chips. This George Harcourt is the closest and we had enjoyed it in the past. The George was all done up for its Christmas in July. The roaring fire and the ornaments added a nice touch on this cool evening. I ordered the surf and turf sirloin, with chips and salad. The salad was a tad overdressed with a mustard vinaigrette but was otherwise fresh; chips were nice but because they were under the steak some of them ended up a little soggy. The steak and prawns were okay but the most disappointing part was the béarnaise, lacking in any real flavour and with no noticeable herbs.It's a cosy little place for a meal, and as long as you're not expecting amazing things you can have a nice, relaxed pub meal here - but it does get super busy so make sure you book!
This pub was a winner the first time we went (a few years ago), but not today. 12 of us booked for lunch. Super slow food service, most items on the menu were 'sold out' (1pm on a Sunday). Two chicken schnitzels were over fried and were impossible to cut, steak sandwich was cold, one piece of bread was rock hard and the other piece soggy and inedible. The burgers made Maccas look gourmet. Salad was ok, standard pub salad, small serving of fries (about 7 of them). $22 for each meal and $23 for 4 sodas. We won't go back in a hurry.

It was a chilly winter evening but The George offered it's reliably warm welcome and generous delicious meals! The open wood fire, the historically interesting decor, the very cold Guinness, a perfect start to a birthday evening!The choice was clear, slow cooked lamb shanks with mash and pork belly with mash and crackling.Generous serves, delicious shared mouthfuls of perfection, wood fire crackling away, friendly efficient staff, a Monday night to repeat again very soon!Thank you George, we'll be back, soon!!!
Just had an awful lunch at the George. The 'fish' was mostly batter with little fish flesh inside and the chicken strips were inedible with heaps of fat through them and very over-cooked. I am a regular customer in the evenings and have found the food to be good in the past so not sure if it's a different chef during the day or if there's been a change of chef in the past month. This was a terrible waste of quite a hefty amount and represented very poor value for money.
Another visit to this icon destination. Great service, great food well cooked with a broad range of choices. Sidestepped the ploughmans lunch this time for the hot pork pie and she had the pork massaman curry. Great beer with some excellent Wiley Trout wines. Pity it was school holidays with children close by who were not keen on that sort of dining. Great place to catch up with good friends with easy parking and on a warm day, lots of space outside to relax.
Two families gathered for grandson first birthday and the atmosphere was fantastic. Open fire, great selection of craft beers on tap, food was fantastic and service was friendly. Plenty of different seating options with indoor function room, bar seating, dining room and outdoor tables with heaters. Lots of families present. Great Ye olde character.

Went to lunch with the team from work and was pleasantly surprised by the rare jewel this place was. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great.
