I joined a Facebook page dedicated to Chicago Italian beef sandwiches and this is one beloved spot and they are 100% spot on. The outside has a nice patio area that has to be a big draw in the summer. The inside is spacious and clean. The staff is friendly and typically old school knowing the lingo to deliver the beef just the way you like it. The sandwiches one of the largest I’ve seen and it PACKED with meat-I mean PACKED. This is certainly one of the best places for delicious Italian beef, second only to Portillo's. I love their Italian beef and have visited many times. However, last month I ordered it for delivery, and I was disappointed with how it arrived—visually unappealing and not very tasty. I had chosen delivery that day simply because it was too cold to go out. Recently, I decided to visit the restaurant in person and ordered the same Italian beef. I found that the food tasted much better when eaten on-site—hot, freshly cooked, and genuinely flavorful. We moved around the corner from this place in 1979 (back when it truly was, just a shack). Only ever really had hot dogs or beef, but even after moving away, 35 'ish years later, I still seek out this place when I 'm in the area. Their prices are reasonable (especially considering how much food they give you). I think I 've seen all generations (starting with great grandpa the referee), and the staff has always been efficient (not 'southern hospitality friendly, but down to business quick). I 've visited a few of the other locations pretty much same experience at those as well.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while, and I finally got the chance to go, and it did not disappoint. I ordered an Italian Beef dipped sandwich and some fries to go. I’m a big fan of their fries, but they were a bit on the salty side. The beef was quite good. It's been a long time since I had a beef sandwich, so I'm not sure how it compares to others, but it's definitely good enough to make my list of top places to visit. I plan to come back a few more times to be sure, but I would definitely recommend it.
Jay's beef is incredible! A generous amount of beef on every sandwich. If you like spicy, the giardiniera is not, but the sandwich does not disappoint. Also, if you order fries, they can be split amongst two people, if not three. Enjoy!
Oh my gosh, I have not had such a Great Beef sandwich in a long time. The Gardiner is so fresh and crispy. Your taste buds will love you! Friendly customer service.
This place was great. Throwing it down like an Italian beef is supposed to be. Get it dipped and then assume the proper sandwich stance for maximum enjoyment.
