Not really sure what happened because I?ve heard nothing but good things about this place but unfortunately that was not my experience. It was truthfully some of the worst food I?ve ever had. Three of us ordered from there and none of us were evenwilling to eat our food. The ?chili cheese? fries looked and tasted like they had canned dog food dumped on them and werecompletely soggy and inedible. And the grilled chicken sandwich was the driest piece of meat I?ve ever had.
You cannot call Sam's Café a hidden gem because it's right there at the corner of College and Illinois. However, it is truly a gem. Fast friendly service and tasty food. Besides gyros (what I normally get), they have something called a stroke: a gyro meat cheese burger with bacon and that's the base level. From there it's a heart attack, death wish, quadruple bypass and... There are a couple more above that. The stroke with onion rings filled me up.
I tried several items from Sam's Cafe menu, including the Chicken Bacon Swiss Sandwich, Mushrooms, Pizza Puff, and Deluxe Gyro Plate, as pictured below. Everything was delicious, although I personally prefer a different style of roasted mushrooms—I really miss El Grecco's! My order was ready in just 15 minutes, and the pickup service was consistently friendly. Thanks for being amazing, Sam's Cafe!
Sam is fantastic and owns the best spot in town. He consistently adds extra meat to his meals and often surprises me with a free soda alongside my order. I highly recommend eating here! I typically go for several of his signature dishes, and he prepares the cucumber sauce fresh daily. Book a table now
On both visits, the food at Sam's Cafe was truly delicious. The first time, I enjoyed Sam's Big Burger with French fries, and the second time, I tried the beef gyro and mozzarella sticks. This place has definitely become my new favorite!
This place is stupid expensive. I mean like 13$ for a single gyro. It is however a locally owned business. And probably the best damn gyro I've ever had. Even better than the state fair.. 5 stars all the way.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. They gave me uncooked food and had the nerve to say I was the only one who was complaining about it. The health department definitely needs to look into them
Was the best gyro in Carbondale for years. Authentic swallows Greek middle eastern third world atmosphere, but I take out anyway and the food is fantastic, so who cares. Book a table now
The cook was super friendly, said he was going to make me the best gyro ever, then he made me the best gyro ever. Consistently fantastic!
