Had booked a table for 7:45 on a Saturday night but was turned away as they had closed the kitchen, having run out of food. Management were not apologetic and blamed the Victorian market which is an annual event on the same weekend every year for having nothing left to eat. I wouldn’t mind but this place only sells pies. Won’t be eating here again. What’s the point in having a booking system when your run out of food on walk ins…
they didn't know we had a booking, so we didn't have a table reserved. they offered us a high table right in front of the bar, completely unsuitable for eating so that we found one ourselves in the lounge. the menu was very limited, so we decided to drink only one drink and go somewhere else for food. the hat is a fabulous place for a drink and stay, but not recommended for eating.
Unfortunately we were called a couple of hours before to say they didn’t have any food and we were specifically going with visiting family for a meal. As it was the Victorian Fayre we didn’t stand a chance of getting in anywhere else. Very disappointed as this is the second time where there was either no food or very limited pies.
we booked for lunch. they couldn't call us to say that there are no kitchen staff. we got the bad news. that is not the fault of man alone. they should block the lunchtime viewing on their website, they do not take any reservations they cannot honor. Please make sure that the head of the fleece is told. Book a table now
This pub has everything you could hope for in a traditional setting. The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the beer and food are both exceptional.
