My meal was subpar. I ordered the macadamia crusted mahi mahi with jasmine rice and seasonal veggies, which I was told would be broccolini. The sauce fish was way too sweet. It was all I could taste. The jasmine rice really didn't taste like anything and the brocollini came out as steamed brocoli. there was no seasoning on it whatsoever, not even salt, EVOO, nothing. I also ordered the Guava rib appetizer. They were tough and chewy, not fall off the bone delicious as I'm used to in a fine dining establishment. And, they seemed to have the same sauce as the fish. From the the hostess to the waitress, service was fast and friendly. Food was delicious. Had the veggie Benedict with potatoes. The potatoes were seasoned so well that we ate every last one! Usually the potatoes are an after thought but they were just as good as the Benedict which I ordered my eggs a special way and they cooked them exactly how I asked. We also had the upside down pineapple French toast. Usually a sweet dish like that you find hard to finish but we also ate the whole plate. I also had the fresh POG and wow, fresh juice is so good. Highly recommend coming here and book on Open Table to you don’t have to wait for a table. Wished we had been in Kona longer to go again.
I ordered the Big Kahuna breakfast with grilled Mahi mahi, two eggs and Haschbraunkartoffeln. Everything was so good! The fish was fresh and right, like eggs and potatoes. The fruit cup was a little old looking, but had taste. My husband had the fish tacos and was very satisfied. My mimosa cocktail was pretty flat, but the Hana Hou was delicious. My husband's **** Mary was great. It was my birthday, so the surprise chocolate cake was decadent! Connie was a great waitress. Great view from the second floor seat and no hurry to get us out. Very satisfied with everything and the free birthday entree.
The burger lacked flavor and seemed to be frozen. The shrimp salad was enjoyable, but only had two cherry tomatoes, a few bacon bits, and a small amount of cheese on top. The service was good, but the exterior of the restaurant, including the rails and stairs, were very dirty. We are considering removing Foster's from our list of go-to spots due to the decline in quality. It's disappointing as it used to be a consistently great restaurant.

Everyone enjoyed their food especially the garden scramble, pancakes were amazing. Server was attentive and reasonably quick. 10 of us served and fed in 45 minutes which was great as we were on a quick turnaround. Disappointed that no espresso coffee was available the day we went. Sensational view.
Please reduce the salt level, just entirely too much! The self service scan menu has taken away from the restaurant experience. I don’t go out to eat so I can place my own order and pay through my phone. We never even had anyone ask if we wanted a refill on our coffee. It was just a cold experience
A fabulous dinner from start to finish! It was a great way to end off our vacation in Hawaii. Our server, Daniel, was awesome, and the hostess was friendly and welcoming. We’ll definitely be back!
This was our second visit to Island Lava Java for breakfast. The food is great, the service is fantastic, and the view is incredible. Highly recommended!
