I’m born and raised here on the Big Island so this is not a biased review but an honest one.First off, the restaurant is located in the backside of the building but in my opinion in prime location to view the ocean and Ali’i drive.As we walked in the host was very kind in greeting us and was sat along the rail looking out towards the cove.Soon after being seated the server arrived and took our order for food (at the time we didn’t know what adult beverage we wanted). In the meantime we were ready to order an adult beverage but have not seen the waiter come by in almost 15min and this wasn’t only our table. Now, it was busy but it wasn’t that busy to not be able to check on your other tables...
Perfect place for beautiful views. We happened to come for sunset and were able to get a table with a great view of the ocean. We ordered lilikoi mocktails which surprisingly weren't too sweet; they were very refreshing and bubbly with a hint of mint and sweetness from lilikoi. For food we ordered the poke stack and pork and fish taco plates. The poke stack was the way to go. Super creamy and flavorful from the wasabi and unagi sauce, would get again! The tacos were not great. The shells were hard and a bit dry and the pork was also a little dry and bland. Maybe pass on those and get the poke stack. The service was great, super nice hostess and server. We waited about 25 minutes for a table...
Food is excellent. Drinks are made well. Service was fantastic, thank you bartender Tomi, our experience was awesome because you are awesome! Beautiful views everywhere you look, it's either the ocean or the wood and glass design of the restaurant. Upstairs is another area that can be reserved for events, meetings, and private parties. The patios are large spacious and overlook the ocean. Happy hour is available at the bar only. Regular menu prices are moderate, many dishes are under $20. Sometimes they have live music too. I highly recommend checking it out.Parking: Garage is under the building
My friends and I visited this restaurant twice for breakfast with a group of 12. Both times, we were seated quickly. We had a fantastic ocean side table with stunning views. The food was excellent; we ordered a variety of dishes, but my favorite was the Firecracker Shrimp paired with macaroni salad. The cocktails were equally impressive—we sampled around eight different ones, and they were all outstanding.

Absolutely incredible! We booked our wedding here last year, but due to the pandemic, the state only allowed gatherings of 10 people both indoors and outdoors. We didn't expect to get our deposit back, but the wonderful team at Papa Kona surprised us with gift cards! We just celebrated our honeymoon and dined mostly at Papa Kona. Everything was fantastic, and the service was exceptional!
Papa Kona is a relaxed place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with fantastic views of the sunset and the ocean! The food was delicious, and the prices were quite reasonable. They also have an extensive specialty drink menu. I highly recommend it—so much so that we ended up dining here three times! I suggest making a reservation, as it was busy even on weekdays!
Since listed as the top 10 on big island, Hawaii, we made this restaurant a priority during our visit; but unfortunately didn’t feel that great. Not sure if it’s cause of the time we went in. The ambience was beautiful, perfect for a date besides the sea. Food however was too salty and highly priced.
Sitting out on the back deck is clearly the best experience at this restaurant. The view is magical. Our entire group of 10 loved the Fried Avocado. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the hamburgers were a hit. Everyone who got fish agreed that it was a little well done.

Great, easy, early breakfast. Nothing better than a cup of Kona coffee with the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks. Traditional Benedict wasn’t terribly traditional when you go Kalua pork and rice, but it was delicious!! Island style French toast was bomb too!
